Princess Grace: Timeless and Elegant

Grace Kelly (known as Princess Grace after her marriage) was the embodiment of 1950s feminine style. This movie star turned royal highlighted her tiny waist with full skirts, and fitted lace bodiced dresses. She balanced high waisted shorts with high collared blouses, accompanied by upswept hair and pearl jewellery. Below is my modern interpretation of this Hollywood bred princess:

Royally Chic V: Diana, Princess of Wales

Princess Diana: Classic & Bold

Diana's rebelliousness was reflected in her wardrobe, which featured skin showing LBDs and electric pops of colour. Pointy toed shoes and black tights were go-to accessories for the Princess, as were drop earrings. She wore her often menswear inspired ensembles with effortless class. Here's my version:

Royally Chic IV: Anne Boleyn, Queen of England

Anne Boleyn: Refined & Mysterious

Queen Anne may have dressed in dark tones, but she wasn't one to be overlooked. With rich velvets, low cut square necklines, and unique pearl and gold accesories, Anne would have no problem catching the eye of King Henry VIII. See how Tudor can go modern below:

Royally Chic III: Princess Ariel

Ariel, The Little Mermaid: Bright & Nautical
 

You can't talk about my favourite royals without including at least one Disney princess! Mimicking the colourful sea world that she comes from, Ariel loves to wear bright clothes that incorporate ocean motifs like shells. Here is a set inspired by this bubbly (get it?) mermaid:

Royally Chic II: Queen Marie-Antoinette

Marie-Antoinette: Girly & Decadent

Marie-Antoinette was fearless when it came to dressing extravagantly. Classic French style is characterized by pale pinks, blues, and greys. You can see this palette in portraits and film adaptations of this ill fated Queen, which showcase her frilly ultrafeminine style. Below is my modern interpretation of this 18th century fashion icon:

Royally Chic I: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

I really loved seeing the different outfits Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge put together for her recent tour of Canada. It inspired me to put together a few Polyvore sets inspired by some of my favourite royal leading ladies. First up, Kate Middleton:

  Duchess Catherine: Youthful & Sophisticated

Whether low-key or formal, Catherine is all about classic pieces that she can (and does!) wear more than once. Some reoccuring motifs in her wardrobe include form fitting dresses with sleeves, clutches and shoes in neutral colours, and lots of navy and beige. Here is my take on her style:
