</tbody></table>In the past few months, I have successfully converted myself into a morning person. And I can't tell you how great it feels! Honestly, I don't remember the last time I pressed the snooze button. My alarm goes off at 6 a.m., I throw on the light, and jump right up and make my bed. I'm never in a rush to get out the door, and have so much extra time to cross a few things off my to-do list, or to just relax and start my day off feeling happy and zenful.<br />
<br />
Back in the day, I was pretty much the opposite. I would stay up way too late, and then would set my alarm at least 35 minutes early to accomodate multiple hits of the snooze button. I would finally stumble out of bed grumpy and exhausted, skip breakfast, and feel profoundly negative about the day ahead. My lowest point was the time I woke up at what I thought was 5:30 a.m, only to realize a full hour later that it was in fact 5:30 p.m. Needless to say, it wasn't the healthiest of sleep cycles.<br />
<br />
Here are a few tips that helped turn me into a worm getting early bird kind of girl: <br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: #351c75;">1. Break the Habit!</span></b><br />
<br />
Becoming a morning person is not going to happen if it means depriving yourself of beauty sleep. It's simple math: you have to be willing to go to bed earlier if you want to wake up earlier. Thing is, you can't really <i>make</i> yourself fall asleep a few hours before your regular time. However, you <i>can</i> force yourself to get up earlier. Yes, it's going to be hard the first few days, but the more tired you are, the sooner you'll want to go to bed, and you'll quickly be back to a healthy 7-9 hours of shut eye. The hard part is staying motivated to do this, so read on! <br />
<div style="color: #351c75;"> <b><br />
</b></div><div style="color: #351c75;"><b> 2. Have Something to Look Forward to!</b></div><br />
Do you remember when you were a kid waking up on Christmas morning? It wasn't that hard to do knowing that there was a room full of presents downstairs waiting for you. I can't stress this enough: You need to have a reason to be excited to be awake. For example, I always pre-make my breakfast the night before and set the timer on the coffee machine. It's easy not to keep sleeping when you have something delicious waiting for you. I'll usually watch a tv show while I'm eating, and go out on the porch to breathe in some fresh air and do some stretches. The sun is usually still coming up and I feel like the entire city is still sleeping except me. So blissful! <br />
<br />
<div style="color: #351c75;"><b>3. Take the Stress Out of It!</b></div><br />
The morning is <i>your</i> time, and it should be about doing things that make you happy. So the more you can "reschedule" the activities that have you flying around the house in a panic the better. Try to do a lot of your more menial tasks the night before. i.e. Have your outfit picked out, have your bag/lunch packed, your work done, and your keys by the door. Why be tearing through your closet when you could be sitting down at the kitchen table, taking your sweet sweet time flipping through a magazine? Also, although I can admire people who go to the gym first thing, I feel like I would only be dreading it if I tried to do it too early. Why put pressure on yourself right away? Try to make your morning routine into a daily ritual consisting only of nice relaxing activities that put you in a good mood, sometimes before they even happen.<br />
<br />
<b style="color: #351c75;">5. Get Inspired!</b><br />
<div style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</div><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;">Need some more motivation to help hatch you from that duvet cuccoon?</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: small;">Try checking out this blog about how various famous people organize their days: <a href="http://dailyroutines.typepad.com/">http://dailyroutines.typepad.com/</a></span><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">And I'm a sucker for a good quote. Here's some good ones:</span></span></div><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></div><blockquote><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Be pleasant until ten o'clock in the morning and the rest of the day will take care of itself. ~Elbert Hubbard</i></span></div></blockquote><blockquote><span style="font-size: small;"><i> The moment when you first wake up in the morning is the most wonderful of the twenty-four hours. And the fact that it practically always doesn't, matters not a jot. The possibility is always there. ~Monica Baldwin</i></span></blockquote><blockquote><div style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i> One key to success is to have lunch at the time of day most people have breakfast. ~Robert Brault</i></span></div></blockquote><blockquote><span style="font-size: small;"><i><span style="font-family: georgia,bookman old style,palatino linotype,book antiqua,palatino,trebuchet ms,helvetica,garamond,sans-serif,arial,verdana,avante garde,century gothic,comic sans ms,times,times new roman,serif;"> The day shall not be up so soon as I, To try the fair adventure of tomorrow. ~William Shakespeare</span><span style="font-family: georgia,bookman old style,palatino linotype,book antiqua,palatino,trebuchet ms,helvetica,garamond,sans-serif,arial,verdana,avante garde,century gothic,comic sans ms,times,times new roman,serif;"> </span></i></span></blockquote><blockquote><span style="font-size: small;"><i><span style="font-family: georgia,bookman old style,palatino linotype,book antiqua,palatino,trebuchet ms,helvetica,garamond,sans-serif,arial,verdana,avante garde,century gothic,comic sans ms,times,times new roman,serif;"> Lose an hour in the morning, and you will be all day hunting for it. ~Richard Whately</span><span style="font-family: georgia,bookman old style,palatino linotype,book antiqua,palatino,trebuchet ms,helvetica,garamond,sans-serif,arial,verdana,avante garde,century gothic,comic sans ms,times,times new roman,serif;"> </span></i></span></blockquote><span style="font-family: georgia,bookman old style,palatino linotype,book antiqua,palatino,trebuchet ms,helvetica,garamond,sans-serif,arial,verdana,avante garde,century gothic,comic sans ms,times,times new roman,serif; font-size: small;">So <b><span style="color: #351c75;">RISE AND SHINE SUNSHINES</span></b>! Hello! I am finally posting again after a very busy few weeks of moving to my new place (pictures coming soon), being sick, and getting started in school!<br />
<br />
One of my absolute favourite parts of the day is breakfast. There is something so peaceful and wonderful about waking up, putting on some cosy slippers and a super soft warm robe and heading to the kitchen to eat a delicious and filling healthy meal. Here is another breakfast recipe that I would personally describe as life changing-ly tasty:<br />
<br />
<b><span style="color: #351c75;">Wake Up and Smell the Sunshine Breakfast Bowl</span></b> <b style="color: #351c75;">Recipe</b><br />
<ul><li>1/4 cup oat bran or rolled oats (I like them raw but you can cook them if you'd prefer)</li>
<li>1 tablespoon milled flaxseed (so good for you!)</li>
<li>1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon</li>
<li>2 tablespoons pecans, crumbled and toasted</li>
<li>1/2 large banana, sliced</li>
<li>1/2 cup mixed berries, sliced (really you can use any fruit)</li>
<li>1/2 cup almond milk</li>
</ul>Combine all ingredients, stir, and you're golden! Serve with coffee and a glass of water and it's the perfect start to the day.the-new-romanticismhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18221221452545832733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5158776264700230265.post-60504787559773814772011-08-27T08:19:00.001-07:002011-08-27T08:41:56.746-07:00My Back to School/Fall Wishlist<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><div style="height: 500px; position: relative; width: 500px;"><a href="http://www.polyvore.com/autumn_wishlist_2011/set?.embedder=2695912&.mid=embed&id=36235416"><img alt="Autumn Wishlist 2011" border="0" force="1" height="500" src="http://embed.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/cid/36235416/id/NMn_A8DQ4BGtXS5oWXIF2Q/size/x.jpg" title="Autumn Wishlist 2011" width="500" /></a></div><br />

<br />
Today I thought I'd show you two spaces that have really inspired the plans for my new bedroom (5 days till move in day -- Yay!).<br />
<br />
1. I have a huge crush on this NYC bedroom from <a href="http://www.elledecor.com/image/tid/5801?page=7&pause=1">Elle Decor</a>, and especially the crisp white sheets paired with the printed burgundy throw. I love how the bones of the room are all in neutral colours (black, white, woods) but the accent pieces keep it looking vibrant and full of texture. <br />
<br />

Maybe you live in a dorm or rental where you aren't allowed to paint, or put nails in the wall. Whatever the case, I have the solution: creating big statement wall art using tape! Here is some inspiration:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #674ea7;"><strong>1. Faux Paneling: </strong></span><span style="color: black;">For those who dream of crown moulding and embellished architectural features, here's something to tide you over for now.</span></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://dabblemag.com/website/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/wall-e1301585954105.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400px" qaa="true" src="http://dabblemag.com/website/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/wall-e1301585954105.jpg" width="265px" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://dabblemag.com/website/diy-faux-paneled-walls-with-tape/">Dabble Mag</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="text-align: center;"> <br />
<span style="color: #674ea7;"><strong>2. Portrait: </strong></span><span style="color: black;">Granted, it might take a bit of skill to create this super cool pop art look, but for the artistically gifted among you, why not give it a shot!</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i-cdn.apartmenttherapy.com/uimages/sf/4-21-08blkelectric.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400px" qaa="true" src="http://i-cdn.apartmenttherapy.com/uimages/sf/4-21-08blkelectric.jpg" width="300px" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/inspiration/look-wall-art-made-with-electrical-tape-048590">Apartment Therapy</a></td></tr>

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #674ea7;"><strong>3. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://cache.net-a-porter.com/images/products/161122/161122_fr_l.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://cache.net-a-porter.com/images/products/161122/161122_fr_l.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>However, I don't exactly have $390 dollars floating around to spend on them. So I looked around for some cheaper alternatives, like this cute $59 black pair from <a href="http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=19987296&navAction=jump&isProduct=true&parentid=MORE%20IDEAS&isProduct=true&cross-sell=true&guide-bn=true">Urban Outifitters</a>:<br />

<br />
First up, this calming and classic space from <a href="http://www.ala-parisienne.com/search/label/MAISON">A La Parisienne</a>. I absolutely love it! The colour scheme reminds me of roses and chocolate and cream. So dreamy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyhJ2Kv_d6hwMEqsI1WENj82ZhFxd1MkN1N9A2X58VLi55ep5SeP9Yyb6YCBW811cprWwgWsODJdyeJJ6OZZulGOA2spTeQUD3N-1gaYdKeZhqV6Yb2UWPmDeZbFbDrrt5xMIac1ky4FY/s400/4879+salon+%25C3%25A0+la+parisienne+copy.jpg" width="400" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyA-Tves3OHe6JBdmPn1fbPB9c2aXAtif19TW_5kDDuVPMQdZIMPhfniOgR25lwFPi9wlQHowI4qFdM6sdWe9_Qp_wfm3-cDhQmZcZp3JhdjHDxEoHYajDM2D5xc6jhviiY1fDyBP8LOU/s800/9315+%25C3%25A0+la+parisienne.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyA-Tves3OHe6JBdmPn1fbPB9c2aXAtif19TW_5kDDuVPMQdZIMPhfniOgR25lwFPi9wlQHowI4qFdM6sdWe9_Qp_wfm3-cDhQmZcZp3JhdjHDxEoHYajDM2D5xc6jhviiY1fDyBP8LOU/s400/9315+%25C3%25A0+la+parisienne.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>The second apartment found via <a href="http://www.ala-parisienne.com/search/label/MAISON">decor8</a> is more cluttered and modern, but still full of beautiful feminine design elements. I love how the bed becomes a cozy nook by putting the bookshelves in front of them.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">While going through the motions of my usual hour and a half commute home from my summer job yesterday, the coolest thing happened. I was standing on the sidewalk waiting to transfer busses. The sky was grey, but not overly threatening. Then, as I was looking off in the distance I could see what looked like a cloud of white smoke with a bus driving through it. As the bus got closer, I could see that it was soaking wet. I did a double take, and sure enough there was a wall of intense rain speeding towards me, even though where I was standing was dry. A few seconds later it was total downpour and everyone was running towards the bus shelter, where I took the above picture.I thought it was all quite exciting.</div><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">Then I got home and made pudding based off of <a href="http://www.eatcleandiet.com/food_and_recipes/clean_recipe/tofu_chocolate_mousse.aspx">THIS</a> Eat Clean recipe, which is basically heaven in a bowl. It's super duper healthy, with a full serving of protein sneakily added in. Don't be afraid of the tofu! It still tastes good, I swear.</div><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="color: #674ea7;"><b>Recipe (Serves 4 - 6):</b></span></div><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><ul><li><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="color: black;">1/4 almond/soy/skim milk</span></div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">3 tablespoons cocoa powder</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">1 12.0 oz package of Silken soft tofu</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">2 medium bananas</div></li>
<li><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Pinch of Sea Salt</div></li>
</ul><ol><li class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">On Low-Medium heat in a saucepan, stir cocoa powder into almond milk.</li>
<li class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">In a blender, combine all other ingredients.</li>
<li class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Add cocoa milk mixture to blender. Blend again, stopping to scrape down sides.</li>
<li class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Refridgerate for at least 30 minutes before eating.</li>
</ol><div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Enjoy!</div>the-new-romanticismhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18221221452545832733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5158776264700230265.post-68760432199908129982011-08-09T08:38:00.000-07:002011-08-18T08:29:28.068-07:00Framed! Easy Decorating Ideas Using Empty Picture Frames<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: center;"> <br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"> It is my belief that picture frames are a neglected species in the student world, with many undergrads opting for sticky tack or double sided tape as their primary wall art display method. Mostly it's because we generally don't have the time or money to size up our photos and posters, buy the necessary materials, or bring it into a shop to get it done. But I say it's time to bring this elusive decorating item back into university housing! I present to you 6 creative ways to use those old empty frames that most people seem to have lying around somewhere--without putting too much effort into it!</div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><span style="color: #674ea7;"><b>1. Running on Empty:</b></span> Just put them up as is! For a high contrast and geometric look, paint them white if it's a brightly coloured wall, or black for a pale coloured wall. And embrace the assymetry!<br />

Inspire with the Wire: </b></span><span style="color: black;">I love the idea of crisscrossing wire through a frame as a way of making an inspiration board. How about New School Year Resolutions? <br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Happy New Semester!: $650 worth of new textbooks, oh my!</td></tr>
</tbody></table> Well, it's that time of year again. That time of year when caffeine induced twitches, hand cramps, and surprisingly unproductive 10 hour library study marathons seem like nothing more ominous than a poorly recalled bad dream. Forgotten is the snail-paced summer countdown you had started way back in February. Forgotten, the screeching techno music of your alarm set to 4:30 in a last ditch effort to squeeze in some cramming for your 9:00 a.m. exam. Yes, it's a time of year when thousands of students find themselves wishing that the summer they had so anticipated would end, and the new semester would begin. <br />
<br />
And if your anything like me, you begin to construct a mental list that can be summarized as you vowing to somehow morph into a 4.0-wielding, club-participating, community service-doing, all-rounded, overachieving superstudent. We all know it's easier said than done, but I'll give you the breakdown of my list anyway (I prefer the term 'optimistic' to 'in denial').<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #674ea7;"><strong>1. "A"-mazing Grades: </strong></span><span style="color: black;">This is less about hitting the books than it is about beating the books to a pulp. i.e. rather than sleeping through a morning class, the new and improved new school year version of myself will have already been up for two hours reviewing the problem sets and readings. Oh, and as a rule of thumb: library before beer, I'm in the clear. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #674ea7;"><strong>2. Do-Run-Run: </strong></span>I really want to keep up the healthy habits I got into this summer, like running and paying a lot of attention to nutrition. Even if I'm faced with three midterms and two essays to do in the space of 48 hours and all I want to do is drown my sorrows in a box of pizza and bag of gummy bears. <br />
<br />
<span style="color: #674ea7;"><strong>3. It IS About the Price Tag: </strong></span>My tutition is of ridiculous proportions this year, not to mention my Toronto-sized rent. I hope that given the choice between buying a 26-er of smirnoff, and buying groceries, I will see sense and choose the latter option.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #674ea7;"><strong>4. Keep it Classy: </strong></span><span style="color: black;">You know...Less of a Marilyn, more of a Jackie. Put aside a little more time to ask the all-important question, "What would Audrey do?" or at the very least, "What would Audrey not do?".You gotta love A-Hep.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #674ea7;"><strong>5. Extra Extra-Curriculars: </strong></span><span style="color: black;">There is a whole lot more to me than the economics diagrams and math problems that make up my academic life, and I really want to push myself to join some stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with it. </span><br />
<br />
That's about it, we'll see how it works out!the-new-romanticismhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18221221452545832733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5158776264700230265.post-78244181717082909972011-08-06T20:43:00.000-07:002011-08-12T15:36:41.966-07:00DIY: Hanging Framed Poetry<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs9XclLDVeNfyqOBNnnxRCCbOK04wfI5Gabb_jh160VdjO3g3563dChPjJpBg0hAD8hohP7KpRi9QlafTHNwlEkW5cRoTYDaIONr6q3gtWAf5vElJVx4BE_A6XwMiLqG5urVadaws4zxE/s1600/framedpoem+038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs9XclLDVeNfyqOBNnnxRCCbOK04wfI5Gabb_jh160VdjO3g3563dChPjJpBg0hAD8hohP7KpRi9QlafTHNwlEkW5cRoTYDaIONr6q3gtWAf5vElJVx4BE_A6XwMiLqG5urVadaws4zxE/s640/framedpoem+038.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"> After finding a couple of empty white frames (I think they actually might have something to do with curtains but anyway) I knew that I wanted to make something with them. And then I found a really old poetry textbook that used to belonged to my Mom. That's when I came up with idea for framed poems.They're really easy to make and I think they are a pretty cool alternative to the posters and magazine clippings you so often see in student housing decor. </div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I started by looking through the book and picking out my favourite poems. I chose '<a href="http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/golden-slumbers-kiss-your-eyes/">Golden Slumbers</a>' by Thomas Dekker, '<a href="http://www.shakespeare-online.com/sonnets/116.html">Sonnet 116</a>' by Shakespeare, and '<a href="http://www.poetry-online.org/bridges_i_love_all_beauteous_things.htm">I Love All Beauteous Things</a>' by Robert Bridges.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh63FgBeBHyBOR-QtEsVxaFQh9dWLwf7fU2PmadTUatFrS11ZoXnP8fBtixn6D7VMv4HgHafIhcLCUgVeRJf7_OqXgZBFfltJTPYsi-PeyUpZvdXELsCVSIfqz08qi81CT9zzCQEjDG8g8/s1600/framedpoem+028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh63FgBeBHyBOR-QtEsVxaFQh9dWLwf7fU2PmadTUatFrS11ZoXnP8fBtixn6D7VMv4HgHafIhcLCUgVeRJf7_OqXgZBFfltJTPYsi-PeyUpZvdXELsCVSIfqz08qi81CT9zzCQEjDG8g8/s320/framedpoem+028.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"> I carefully cut out the pages I needed. If you don't have a book, you can just as easily print poems you like from the internet. Or maybe you'd rather use a script of your favourite film, or a picture book from your childhood that you never look at but don't want to throw out. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWV95VVb9CNCEeDzxK_iM7uPJBoQ-KqBanTn8BJioHzu9c0EldYe6bCI7V5y_8bJVsvmXv08FDZ8elM0HIfo2zeW-dmGOMlgHrCflbw1yQNH7kmBju-1eJqAQMiCqH7zUySPr9SU8njTY/s1600/framedpoem+024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWV95VVb9CNCEeDzxK_iM7uPJBoQ-KqBanTn8BJioHzu9c0EldYe6bCI7V5y_8bJVsvmXv08FDZ8elM0HIfo2zeW-dmGOMlgHrCflbw1yQNH7kmBju-1eJqAQMiCqH7zUySPr9SU8njTY/s320/framedpoem+024.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Next, since I wasn't using real picture frames, I taped the poems to the back of the frames. I trimmed the edges to make sure you couldn't see anything sticking out in the front view.</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijuT6JJ4WvLwVjOsdy-HqJBL2b7jtVLytWq_Hw5R6I2dFcaeMYskNnpvbtYL3t_lzQ6xVADxOVvl38FbR5Ddli7WmkbfQOXzAfcbFv_q7QLkPjUUPd4nuwY_1US-mandsNsEZmIf9qz-8/s1600/framedpoem+023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijuT6JJ4WvLwVjOsdy-HqJBL2b7jtVLytWq_Hw5R6I2dFcaeMYskNnpvbtYL3t_lzQ6xVADxOVvl38FbR5Ddli7WmkbfQOXzAfcbFv_q7QLkPjUUPd4nuwY_1US-mandsNsEZmIf9qz-8/s320/framedpoem+023.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;"> I recycled some black ribbon from a gift bag, and made them into little bows. I am endlessly excited about the prospect of decorating and designing this new space which I'll be sharing with my sister. After living in dorms for the past 5 years (boarding school kid) I can't wait to be able to choose my own furniture and FINALLY escape the beige walls. I was really inspired by the blog '<a href="http://www.paintmewhite.com/">Paint Me White</a>' (Check it out--everything is so beautiful!) and decided to undertake some white painting of my own. It's such a great solution to the age old student problem of mismatched hand-me-down furniture.<br />
<br />

One of my all time favourite healthy breakfast recipes, which I have hereby christened the 'Pour Your Heart Out Protein Pancake'. It is based off of <a href="http://toneitup.com/blog.php?Protein-Pancakes-Low-carb-low-fat-and-delicious-1973">this</a> TIU version. Not only is it delicious, but it's also completely healthy and clean. As a vegetarian, I have to put a concious effort into adding protein to my diet, and this recipe does the trick. Even though this recipe has no added sugar, you'll be surprised at how sweet it tastes regardless!<br />
<br />
Okay, so I'll admit I don't make them into little heart shaped pancakes every morning, but I'd like to think it tastes just a little bit better when I do. :) <br />
<br />
<b>Ingredients</b> (Serves 1):<br />
<br />
<ul><li> 1/4 cup liquid egg whites (approx. 2 egg whites)</li>
<li>1/2 large banana (microwaved to make it easier to mash)</li>
<li> 1 teaspoon cinnamon</li>
<li>1 tablespoon milled flaxseed</li>
<li>1 scoop of any protein powder</li>
<li>Mixed Berries (or sliced fruit of your choice!)</li>
<li>cooking oil</li>
</ul><b>Instructions </b>:<br />
<ol><li>Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat on the stove top. Add cooking oil/spray.</li>
<li>Mix dry ingredients in a small bowl (protein powder, flaxseed, cinnamon).</li>
<li>Stir in wet ingredients (egg whites and softened banana)</li>
<li>Pour into pan, cooking pancake on both sides until browned to your liking. If you want to make them into shapes, place your cookie cutter in the pan and pour batter into the mold. </li>
<li> Place pancake onto a plate, and top with fruit. I like to then put it into the microwave for 45 seconds so that the berries are slightly melted, and the juices bleed into the pancake. </li>
<li>Eat it while it's hot, and enjoy! </li>

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Grace Kelly (known as Princess Grace after her marriage) was the embodiment of 1950s feminine style. This movie star turned royal highlighted her tiny waist with full skirts, and fitted lace bodiced dresses. She balanced high waisted shorts with high collared blouses, accompanied by upswept hair and pearl jewellery. Below is my modern interpretation of this Hollywood bred princess:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Diana's rebelliousness was reflected in her wardrobe, which featured skin showing LBDs and electric pops of colour. Pointy toed shoes and black tights were go-to accessories for the Princess, as were drop earrings. She wore her often menswear inspired ensembles with effortless class. Queen Anne may have dressed in dark tones, but she wasn't one to be overlooked. With rich velvets, low cut square necklines, and unique pearl and gold accesories, Anne would have no problem catching the eye of King Henry VIII. See how Tudor can go modern below: </div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">You can't talk about my favourite royals without including at least one Disney princess! Mimicking the colourful sea world that she comes from, Ariel loves to wear bright clothes that incorporate ocean motifs like shells. Here is a set inspired by this bubbly (get it?) mermaid:</div><br />
<div style="height: 500px; position: relative; width: 500px;"><a href="http://www.polyvore.com/royal_fashion_princess_ariel_mermaid/set?.embedder=2695912&.mid=embed&id=35133183"><img alt="Royal Fashion: Princess Ariel the Mermaid" border="0" height="500" src="http://embed.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/cid/35133183/id/dhwwTZ6-4BGWqvjK6raIrg/size/x.jpg" title="Royal Fashion: Princess Ariel the Mermaid" width="500" /></a></div><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Marie-Antoinette was fearless when it came to dressing extravagantly. Classic French style is characterized by pale pinks, blues, and greys. You can see this palette in portraits and film adaptations of this ill fated Queen, which showcase her frilly ultrafeminine style. Below is my modern interpretation of this 18th century fashion icon:</div><div style="height: 500px; position: relative; width: 500px;"><a href="http://www.polyvore.com/royal_fashion_marie-antoinette/set?.embedder=2695912&.mid=embed&id=35143106"><img alt="Royal Fashion: Marie-Antoinette" border="0" height="500" src="http://embed.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-set/cid/35143106/id/qCDy0Li-4BGp3A4BJH2sqQ/size/x.jpg" title="Royal Fashion: Marie-Antoinette" width="500" /></a></div><br />

It inspired me to put together a few Polyvore sets inspired by some of my favourite royal leading ladies. First up, Kate Middleton:<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br />
</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;"> Duchess Catherine: Youthful & Sophisticated</span></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://0.tqn.com/d/celebritystyle/1/0/g/H/-/-/kate_navy-lace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://0.tqn.com/d/celebritystyle/1/0/g/H/-/-/kate_navy-lace.jpg" width="167" /></a><a href="http://media.chatelaine.topscms.com/images/09/22/b76cc6b94ba49ac40e98dcde3eab.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://media.chatelaine.topscms.com/images/09/22/b76cc6b94ba49ac40e98dcde3eab.jpeg" width="180" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Whether low-key or formal, Catherine is all about classic pieces that she can (and does!) wear more than once. Some reoccuring motifs in her wardrobe include form fitting dresses with sleeves, clutches and shoes in neutral colours, and lots of navy and beige. Here is my take on her style:<a href="http://www.polyvore.com/royal_fashion_catherine_duchess_cambridge/set?id=35133611"> </a></div><br />
